Greenacre: Police officer struck by a Mazda 3 hatchback overnight. Prior to being hit, police say the vehicle was travelling at 121km. The senior constable was taken to Concord Hospital suffering injuries to his hands and legs.
Police Statement: Police are appealing for witnesses after an officer was struck by a speeding car in Sydney’s south last night. About 7.50pm yesterday (Tuesday 5 September 2017), police attached to the Bankstown Local Area Command were conducting speed enforcement duties on Roberts Road, Greenacre. Just before 8.30pm, a car was clocked travelling 121km/h near Rebecca Road. A Senior Constable wearing an approved reflective vest held out a “Stop Police” sign and signalled for the driver to pull over with a torch. The car instead sped up to overtake a taxi and struck the Senior Constable. The officer was taken to Concord Hospital in a stable condition, suffering injuries to his hands and legs. The driver did not stop to render assistance and was last seen travelling down Roberts Road. The car has been described as a dark blue Mazda 3 hatchback. It is believed the collision caused damage to the nearside wing mirror and possible damage to bonnet of the car. Investigators are urging the driver and anyone with information to come forward.
